➡ What is the difference between a flocculant and a clarifier?
Flocculants and clarifiers are two types of products commonly used to treat cloudy water in swimming pools. Although they have the same goal to make the water clearer and more limpid they differ in their application methods and compatibility with different types of filters.
The role of a liquid or solid flocculant is to aggregate suspended particles in the water, even the finest ones, into a bulky precipitate called floc. The impurities then become larger and are thus better retained by the filter mass. Flocculants thus enhance the filtration fineness of the filter mass and mechanically remove impurities more effectively, making the water crystal clear.
Note that flocculants are incompatible with cartridge or diatomaceous earth filters because they could clog them, leading to the need for more frequent cleanings and replacements.
A clarifier, such as Superklar, is compatible with all types of filtration and is very easy to use. Thanks to a phenomenon of charges, the clarifier will attract impurities in the water, and the clustering of these impurities will make the water clearer and more crystalline. This clarifying effect can be observed in all types of pools, regardless of the filter type.
➡ When can you swim after a flocculant treatment?
Swimming is possible immediately after adding the product. It is preferable to add the pool flocculant sock in the evening, after swimming.
➡ What is the purpose of pool flocculant?
Flocculation improves the filtration fineness in pools equipped with sand or glass filters. By doing so, the flocculant helps achieve clearer water while reducing the need for disinfectants. Additionally, Superflock Plus is recommended for removing metals and phosphates (algae nutrients), which helps maintain optimal water quality throughout the season.
➡ How long after shock chlorination should you add flocculant?
The Superflock Plus flocculant cartridge can be added to the skimmer immediately after shock chlorination. It is advisable to perform a backwash before using the cartridge and to adjust the pH between 7.0 and 7.4.
Be careful not to exceed the recommended dosage, as too much flocculant in the pool can have the opposite effect and make the water cloudy.
