Winterising and hibernation for pools.
The hot summer is at an end and the owners of the outdoor unheated pools are preparing for the winter. We would like to give you some tips and advice on some steps to follow......
Pool manufacturers recommend that in-ground outdoor pools remain in the filled state during the winter. This has several advantages, The water counteracts the pressure on the walls from the surrounding soil which over the winter and spring accumulates a high quantity of water. Also the walls of the pool are protected from the freezing temperatures and the potential of falling objects during the high winds.
The addition of the winterising product Puripool to your swimming pool water protects your pool from the deposits of lime scale and the formation and growth of algae. This will help in the Spring when the pool is opened and the cleaning begins saving you time and money, and allowing you swim problem free.
Points to be taken into consideration for hibernation:
- Check and if necessary adjust the pH value to 7.0 – 7.4
- Should the pool be infected with algae before winterising, remove algae mechanically from walls and the floor by means of brushing and/or electric cleaners
- Carry out a thorough filter backwash for at least 5 minutes or longer if necessary for the water to run clear
- Carry out a shock chlorination by applying one Chloriklar tablet per m3 to the skimmer or 25 g Chlorifix granules per m3 predissolved and poured around the perimeter of the pool. The shock chlorination prevents algae and other debris already present to remain in the water during the winter period
- Applying a FilterShock tablet is even more efficient, since it will thoroughly disinfect the filter and will carry out a shock disinfection at the same time. Dosing: 1 FilterShock tablet per 15 m3 directly into the skimmer
- Lower the water level to below the inlets
- Next day apply the appropriate amount of Puripool and distribute throughout the pool using a suitable container such as a watering can
- Drain external pipe work
- Add for instance empty plastic containers or pieces of wood to compensate for the ice pressure in the pool
Puripool is a concentrated liquid for the hibernation of filled open air pools. The Spring clean of your swimming pools is substantially assisted by Puripool, by forming a helpful film on the surface of the pool walls thereby preventing adhesion. This is of particular help in preventing the formation of algae. Puripool is free from phosphates.
