Seasonal care

Seasonal care for your swimming pool

Every year the same questions crop up:

What did I do last spring?

What do I have to watch out for when winter is approaching or when I’m on holiday for a couple of weeks?

How can I avoid bleach spots or what do I have to watch out for if my water is extremely hard or soft?

The BAYROL Care Tips will give you the answers and a whole lot more!

Tips for the start of the season

Swimming pool manufacturers recommend keeping outdoor pools filled during the winter. So in these cases the question at the start of the season is whether you should treat the “wintered” water or refill it with fresh water.

For outdoor swimming pools BAYROL recommends a complete water change once a year, and for indoor pools every 2 - 3 years. The best time to change the water in outdoor pools is in spring because after the winter you will have to give the pool a spring clean anyway.

If the pool is empty and free of dirt and lime, check the filter and fill it up with water from the tap.

First set the pH (7.0 - 7.4), and then begin with a thorough disinfection or chlorine shock. You can then continue with normal care 3 days later.

Remember that when you refill the pool, the pH will rise rapidly in the first few days and must therefore be checked more frequently and if necessary reduced using pH-Minus.

Holiday care

If you do not have an automatic pool water treatment dosage system and are away for more than 8 days you must ensure that you have a store of agents for disinfection and algae prevention for while you are away.

Ideally you should cover the pool with a tarpaulin but not switch off the automatic pool circulation, and let it continue to run daily (half as long as usual).

If you have a sand filter we recommend the following procedure for when you are on holiday:

Give it sufficient backwash, set the pH to 7.0 - 7.4 and then it is best to place a BAYROL Multibloc (for 30 - 50 m³ water) in the skimmer. The Multibloc will last for about 3 weeks.

If you have a cartridge filter:

Clean the filter, check the pH (7.0 - 7.4) and then depending on the size of the pool, place several Chlorilong tablets in the dosage float. By reducing the size of the dosage slit you will provide the pool with disinfectant for a good 3 weeks. Don’t forget to add twice the usual amount of Desalgin, Desalgin Jet or Bayroplus.

Even if the pool water looks perfectly all right when you return from your holiday you should still first give the filter a good backwash or wash it out. Use FilterShock Tab if necessary.

Outdoor pools in winter

Swimming pool manufacturers recommend keeping outdoor pools filled during the winter. The advantages: keeping the pool filled with water counteracts the pressure of slipping earth (pressing in the sides of the pool) or any "floating" of the pool when the groundwater level is high in spring. A filled pool is also less exposed to the effects of the weather, and cannot be damaged by any objects falling into it.

Adding Puripool, a special agent for the duration of the winter, also has an additional advantage: this will prevent lime deposits or algae growth from the very start and this will in turn make the spring cleaning much easier and involve less effort.

Tip:

Even if you have already added Puripool to the water, you can still bathe in it without any problems.

Note the following for winter:

   1. Set pH (7.0 - 7.4)

   2. Keep the circulation running when you do a chlorine shock,

so that existing impurities do not “hibernate”

   3. When the pool is out of use, ensure the water level is below the ducts

   4. Spread the proper dosage of Puripool over the whole pool

   5. Empty outside pipes

   6. Place an ice buffer to compensate for ice pressure in the pool
