BAYROL celebrates it 80th anniversary

This year, BAYROL Deutschland GmbH, European market leader for swimming pool water maintenance and cleaning products, can look back on 80 years of company history.

BAYROL is the benchmark for modern and innovative water maintenance for all size of pools.

BAYROL was founded in 1927 by chemist Heinz Pohl in Munich. The company name is derived from its Bavarian “bayrisch” origin (BAYR) and the quality guaranteed by the Pohl (OL) family. The success story started with special chemical products for industrial cleansing and maintenance.

Following the traditional dedication to hygiene, in 1960 around Dr. Achim Pohl led the second generation into a new era by conquering the end consumer market. BAYROL diversified its range of products, which had until then focussed on industrial cleansing and disinfection products by introducing Desalgin, an algae prevention product. Since then, BAYROL scientists have been developing and improving pool care and cleansing products in the company’s own research laboratories. “Easy use, effectiveness and skin kindness are still the core values behind everything we do”, emphasises marketing director Michael Bencak, “and the company’s innovative strength is in using our scientific knowledge and intensive development work to produce pool products that are always state of the art.” BAYROL products make water care so simple that you can just concentrate on relaxing and having fun with your pool.

In 1982 BAYROL was the first company in the world to make active oxygen usable for swimming pool water maintenance and successfully introduce it into the European market as a real alternative to chlorine. In the meantime the company provides a very wide range of water care products; whether chlorine, active oxygen, bromine or biguanide, no consumer wish is left unsatisfied. “We see ourselves as the initiators in ongoing optimisation of pool care products“, says Dr. Bernd Bayerl, BAYROL’s R&D director. “This is also demonstrated by our patented new development VariTab. This is the first time anywhere in the world that anyone has managed to integrate filter cleanser into one multifunction tablet.” It combines five functions in one product, making pool care even easier.

With a European turnover of 80 million euros, BAYROL is the market leader when it comes to many years of customer relations in the European swimming pool industry and many loyal pool owners. BAYROL products are sold through authorised specialist retailers and selected consumer markets.
