The historical development of BAYROL
1927
BAYROL is established in Munich by chemist Heinz Pohl. The company name betrays its Bavarian origins (BAYR) and integrates the quality assured by the Pohl family (OL). The success story began with special chemical products for cleaning and caring for industrial goods. Two of the products created by the company’s founder are still the basis the most varied disinfection and cleaning processes. Octozon is invert soap for disinfecting building facades and Kombicid is used for the gentle cleaning and deep disinfection of pipes, fittings, tanks and vats worldwide.
1950
After the Second World War, the founder’s son - Dr. Achim Pohl – set about re-establishing the company. BAYROL soon made a name for itself in the drinks industry, providing products for cleaning and disinfecting, especially in breweries.
1960
A new business field is opened up: care for swimming pool water. Based on his own research, Dr. Pohl launched Desalgin – an algae annihilator unsurpassed to this day.
In the following years new brands, such as Chloriklar and Chlorilong were introduced, and a production plant was opened in Martinsried near Munich as well as the first foreign company in France.
1972
BAYROL products are used for looking after the swimming pool water at the Munich Olympics.
BAYROL expands further: companies are opened in Switzerland, Spain and Italy.
1974
The “Schwimmbad Report” magazine is launched.
1982
a milestone in the company’s history: BAYROL receives its first patent for the familiar active oxygen method. Introduction of the Bayroklar brand. This was soon followed by Bayroplus and Bayroklar Duo Tab.
1984
10 years of “Schwimmbad Report”. The number of pages has increased to 28 with a circulation in excess of 80,000. For the anniversary issue Spanish and French language versions were published for the first time.
1992
BAYROL cares for the Olympic swimming pool at the Barcelona Olympics.
BAYROL is Europe’s leading manufacturer of swimming pool care products.
1993
A new era begins. BAYROL is acquired by an American company, Great Lakes Chemicals. The following years are shaped by the reinforcement of earning power and major investment in product development, marketing and customer service.
1994
Introduction of BayroSoft, the first automatic dosage system with active oxygen.
1995
Production and storage are moved to more economical locations.
1996
The Multibloc complete care system and environmentally friendly pouch packs are introduced. The sale of automatic swimming pool cleaners and the BAYROL Hotline are launched.
1996
Launching of PoolManager dosing system.
1998
Patent application and introduction of Filterclean Silver. The sales team in Eastern Europe is reinforced.
1999
The industrial hygiene division is sold off. The company’s activities are concentrated on the core business of swimming pool care. BAYROL goes online with a new website.
2000
Introduction of Soft & Easy and Pool Relax.
2001
Introduction of COMPLETE. Pool care with a unique combination of active agents.
2002
BLUE DIAMOND pool cleaner is introduced.
2003
the patented new development FilterShock enhances our product portfolio.
2004
Introduction of PoolConnect, the mobile communication module for swimming pools.
2004
30 years of “Schwimmbad Report”. Circulation exceeds 250,000 and is published in over 10 countries and 8 languages.
2005
The range of products is expanded with Chlorifix micro-pellets and QuickTest with algaecide measurement.
2006
Introduction of VariTab. The world’s first 2-phase tablet makes pool care even easier, combining 5 functions in one product for the first time.
2006
Takeover of the “Home Swim” company – the swimming pool manufacturer.
2007
The product revolution FilterShock Tab comes onto the market. Effective and easy filter cleaning in tablet form.
